This mobile is carefully handcrafted one by one using rice straw from the Shonai Plain in Yamagata Prefecture. Works by nomasoma bring out the natural beauty of plants and add a gentle presence to everyday life. The brand name “nomasoma” is formed by rearranging the Japanese word “そのまま (sono mama),” which means “as it is.”
You can enjoy it on its own, display several in a row, or connect another piece and hang it from the center of the umbrella-shaped top.
There are three motifs:
Bird: A small bird carrying an egg. The softly colored round egg is made from Job’s tears seeds. Angel: Two angels standing side by side, quietly offering their prayers. Cross: A light, airy cross motif with a striking contrast between the straw color and the red thread.
nomasoma
nomasoma is a two-person floral brand based in Shonai, Yamagata, Japan, overlooking the three sacred mountains of Dewa: Mt. Gassan, Mt. Yudono, and Mt. Haguro. Focusing mainly on plants and flowers from the Shonai region, they create works that draw out the inherent beauty of each plant. Learning about local knowledge, customs, and culture related to plants, and passing these on to the next generation, is also an important theme in their work.
